Facilities are not the Vision
They’re tangible. Visible. Physical. Measurable. Concrete (sometimes literally!). It’s understandable why churches confuse their vision with buildings and facilities--but this is a mistake.
Facilities, no matter how well-designed, are not the vision. We are a church committed to making followers of Christ who Worship God passionately, Connect with God’s people and Impact God’s world. This is our vision. To fulfill this vision, first, we must enter into the hurting lives of thousands of people in South Brevard County who need Jesus. We do this through personal evangelism, inviting non-Christians to share in our Biblical Community and by expressing the love of Christ through word and deed with the physically and spiritually needy of our city. Secondly, we must encourage and help all Christians, regardless of their maturity level, worship God, grow in the Faith and use their gifts to build God’s Church and to expand God’s Kingdom.
Facilities aren’t the Vision, but properly-designed buildings with adequate space facilitate the fulfillment of our Vision. Facilities don’t guarantee the fulfillment of the Vision, but as God’s people do the work of the ministry, they can be used by God to successfully fulfill the Vision He gives. Covenant has experienced this firsthand in the past. It is our desire to see this occur again in the months and years ahead.
Vision 2020 isn’t about buildings and facilities. It’s about taking important steps of faith with our current and future facilities that position us to experience God’s presence and power and grace to the limit He so decrees. We do this not to build a reputation, receive acclaim within our denomination or bolster our standing within the community. We do this so that God may use us for His glory as He builds His Kingdom here in Palm Bay and around world. |
